Sennheiser HD 25 Review

The aluminum version of the popular HD 25 is a product specially designed for the 25th anniversary of the brand. For the occasion, I finally tested these amazing headphone widely used in the world of DJs and other audio professionals. This is a headphone with a simple but elegant design integrating all the acoustic experience of Sennheiser. Even if the price may seem a little higher than some competitors, every penny spent on HD 25 shall bring you complete satisfaction.

Design and Features

If, the key point where the HD 25 hits strong is the audio quality, do not take its design forsaken. Some people will find it too simple and uncluttered compared with Beats for its Solo HD or V-Moda with its Crossfade M-100, but I like the style of this model. Simple and elegant, this is what I often expect when I try a headset or headphones. The headset can be connected with a cord that can be attached to the right or left earphone according to what suits you best; the ear pads are soft that fits directly onto your ears (supra-aural type, therefore). On the two hoops, there are relatively thick padding ensuring a very good comfort on the skull.

To manage the size of the headphones, they can slide directly along the headband. In general, it is often the hoop that can be retracted or lengthen. The hoop of Sennheiser HD 25 is relatively flexible, and the headphones can twist to release an ear whenever you want. A feature, especially suited to the followers of turntables.

The arch is thus composed of two branches which are remote. Therefore, by sticking the two together, you will obtain a single and large arch, whereas by separating the both at the maximum, you will considerably increase the stability of the latter on the head. It is rare to find a headphone that is both comfortable and stable, but the Sennheiser HD 25 passed the test with flying colors.

The headphones are only available with a 3.5mm jack cable (there is a lack of other components such as a microphone and a remote control), an adapter for stereo devices and a zipped carrying pouch. Note that the bearings can also be removed and replaced.

Sound performance

As soon as the sound is played, Sennheiser’s expertise in the field of headphones become evident. The sound is dynamic and clear. The audio is well balanced between the different tones.

In practice, the bass is tight and without any distortions even when the volume is increased. It is well present without being exaggerated.

The headphone cushions allow a very good isolation from the external noises and thus makes it a powerful choice for the audio professionals, proposing an accurate and precise sound without being disturbed by the surrounding noise. So, whether you want to make your own mix or if you are a sound oriented listener, it will perfectly suit you.

On the other hand, if you are looking for a mobile headset to plug into your smartphone or MP3 player, you may want to switch to a Sennheiser Momentum, which will prove to be more comfortable and offers awesome audio performance.

Conclusion

The Sennheiser HD 25 is one of the best headphones in its category and price range. Particularly suitable for the sound recording professionals and the DJs, it proposes a very authentic and precise audio signature. Its comfort is specific without being exceptional, and if you are looking for headphones rather moveable for everyday life, we recommend a Momentum or a Bowers & Wilkins P5 for example.
